Addiction to alcohol, drugs, and gambling doesn’t affect just one person.
It often brings people into contact with courts, probation services, prisons, healthcare systems, and homelessness.
But the impact goes far beyond the individual.
Addiction damages families, destabilises local communities, and affects Irish society as a whole.
That’s why real recovery requires more than punishment.
It requires early intervention, support, education, and compassion.
Real recovery requires cooperation.
That’s why Social Ground Force works where systems meet real lives.
• Gardaí
• GPs & healthcare providers
• Courts & lawyers
• Probation Services
• Rehabilitation centres
• Community centres & family support groups
• Government representatives & ministers
• Academic institutions
• Media & social workers
This multidisciplinary cooperation allows us to support people
in courts, in homes, in workplaces — and most importantly, through their disease.
No other charity in Ireland operates with a holistic frontline approach like Social Ground Force.
Among our service users:
• 46.7% had been in the court system
• 50.8% engaged with Probation Services
• 31.7% had been in prison
• 16.9% were experiencing homelessness at the time of engagement
These figures show how closely addiction, mental health, homelessness, and the justice system are connected.
Despite operating without State funding:
Our statistics prove that this model works — and could be scaled nationally with the right resources.
Over 34% of our service users came from outside Sligo — including:
Mayo • Leitrim • Galway • Donegal • Athlone • Limerick
We are already operating as a national frontline service.
“They are like Special Forces — they parachute in during emergencies, rescue, educate, and support recovery.”
This trust is built on results, speed, and lived experience.
When courts, probation officers, Gardaí, and communities work together — lives are saved, families stabilise, and pressure on the State is reduced.
That’s what effective frontline work looks like.
We work with people who are often the most marginalised and hardest to reach — and we help them rebuild stability, dignity, and hope.
We save & change lives.
